Commissioning Engineering

Sample Projects List

Eastern Processing Facility (Rocket Payload Processing)

Performance Engineering Group is responsible for all aspects of commissioning during the design and construction phase. Systems to be commissioned include all mechanical, controls, electrical and specialty systems. Commissioning tasks include submittal review, pre-functional checksheets, start-up and test witnessing, functional performance testing, training verification, systems manual development, and 10 month follow-up.

The project is currently in construction phase with completion scheduled for 2009.  Performance Engineering Group is also executing quality control such as tracking all welds on critical systems and cross-referencing them with the weld inspections and x-rays to create an auditable system for tracking. Similar quality control activities are occurring for concrete placement, structural elements, and soils testing and we expect to do the same for other specification tests.

JEA LEED-EB Certification

This project includes the first and second registered LEED EB buildings in the Jacksonville, Florida and the second and third in the state of Florida. Each building is on track for silver certification in early 2008.

Conservation Center

The first building is the 9,195 ft² JEA Conservation Center serves mainly as a center for teaching conservation and green building practices to homeowners and builders. The HVAC systems in the conservation center are comprised of two 10 ton condensing units and a 7-1/2 ton heat pump serving a single variable volume air handling unit with terminal units. Currently, the building automation systems include CO2 monitoring to control exhaust fans only. As part of the LEED certification project these sensors will be used to control actual outside air ventilation rates to ensure humidity issues are avoided. Other LEED points include modifications to the exhaust systems serving toilet rooms and janitor closets to provide proper indoor air quality control.

Plaza Buildings I, II, III

Plaza buildings I, II, and III comprise 686,378 ft² of multi-story office and customer service area. These buildings have been grouped as one LEED certification project because they share common chilled and heating hot water systems. However, some areas are using electric heat instead of heating hot water. Individually, the areas are as follows: Plaza I is 300,000 ft², Plaza II is 180,000 ft², and Plaza III is 206,378 ft²

JEA District Energy Service

Performance Engineering Group, Inc. through a multi-year contractual agreement with JEA provides design engineering and commissioning services for a multitude of JEA projects representing in excess of $5,000,000 of annual construction budgeting. The projects span a wide array of engineering and commissioning specialties such as district energy systems, laboratory design/commissioning, facility building systems, life cycle cost analysis, etc.

JEA District Chilled Water Facilities

In support of JEA's vision of environmental stewardship, Performance Engineering Group, Inc. has assisted in the design, construction management, and commissioning of a fully automated condenser water chemistry program utilizing environmentally friendly chemicals for all JEA's district chilled water facilities. The result is improved water chemistry control with no requirement to discharge to the city's sanitary sewer systems thereby reducing the facilities impact on the environment.

JEA DES Customer Metering Stations

Performance Engineering Group, Inc. has provided extensive commissioning services for all JEA District Energy Services customer metering stations ensuring revenue grade metering installation required for utility billing. To date, JEA owns and operates over 8,000 tons of chilled water connected load monitored by a dozen installed metering stations. Performance Engineering Group, Inc. was directly responsible for installation verification including functional performance and system operational testing and developed the base design/commissioning standard for all future stations.
